At last we begin to see,
everywhere,
how community
grows from the circle,
shapes us,
and still allows
each person
to carry something precious:
dignity.

Dignity

People come to recognize one another
by the dignity they acknowledge in each other.

It shows itself
in respecting boundaries,
and in choosing to uphold them.

Across time and distance,
it endures,
without losing its presence.

And still, people know
that persistent thought:
not feeling worthy enough.

When separation approaches,
it becomes clear
how much dignity matters —
more than possessions,
more than influence.

It reaches further
than a single lifetime.

Dignity deepens
through lived experience,
through what a person has carried —
unless they have been broken.

Through suffering,
through the loss of dignity,
until the memory fades
of who one once was.

Love exists everywhere.
Only when it takes the lead
does suffering lose its grip.

Then dignity
can become visible again.
